Ben 10 Backpack and School uniform

Summer vacation is over and school season kick started. Going back to school after a month's vacation is not very cool for kids. So just a week before the School reopening I decided that Aryan must have his new backpack for his first day of school.  With my shop orders lined up I had very less time to sew a backpack and his new uniform.  I guess sometimes you just have to force yourself to make time.  He loves BEN 10 and I had promised to make Ben 10 backpack long back.

My son was really excited about his new backpack & new uniform and after seeing them, he was very happy and geared up for his first day at school

The short sleeve uniform shirt fits him perfectly. I love all details and how it turned out (Front pocket with school label, back yoke, sturdy collar).

I choose to make a simple and convenient pattern for backpack with little time in hand . As you know I love recycling. This backpack was made from an old Jean same like Owly backpack
This was the first time I was working with pipping.  I had gotten few plastic pipes long back, which I was thinking to use for bags. Gosh! I had a hard time to sew it around. But I'm very happy the way it turned out - Stiff to hold the shape.

When Aryan knew I was making the Ben10 backpack for him ; he was behind me every now and then asking " Mama, is it ready"  When the backpack was ready, he was so happy to see it and he was wearing it the whole day. It feels so nice to make things for kids that they really like.

I have added the adjustable straps and I padded the strap with cotton batting so it sits perfectly and comfy on his shoulder.  Roomy interior with little open pocket (I just forgot to take the photo from inside).  Ben 10 photos are washable sticker appliquéd on the front.

Overall this was done in less time and fits perfectly for my boy.  It felt great to make for my little one.

DIY- Mail organizer tutorial

Last weekend I did grocery shopping.  When I was unpacking the cereal box; I realized my Mail organizer is still pending.  Most of the time, l don't throw away the cereal boxes, plastic cover etc. I keep them safe for recycling.  I decided to make the Mail organizer which I need the most in my kitchen. It was super fun to make and thought I'd share the process in a tutorial.

Things you need:
Cardboard
Cereal Box
Glue/hot glue
Fabric A
Fabric B (bias tape or satin ribbon)

1. First cut the cereal box into half and measure them. Cut the fabric as per the dimension of the box. 2 pieces for front & back and a long strip for the both sides & bottom of the box.

2. Sew the long strip along three sides of the Front square piece and then join the back piece same way.

 3. Insert the cereal box into the fabric box, so it snugly fits into it .  Now the cut the Fabric B like bias tape and neatly paste/hot glue along the edge.   Mail box is ready!

4. Cut the Fabric A as per measurement of the cardboard.  Apply glue or spray adhesive and stick the fabric.

5. Apply glue along the raw edge of the cardboard and stick the bias tape (fabric B or satin ribbon)

6.  Make 2 holes through mail box and the cardboard.  Now tie the mail box to the cardboard with help of ribbon or fabric.  And apply glue along the sides, so the mail box sticks well to the cardboard.

7.  Recycled Mail organizer is ready.  Oh!! I forgot to take the photos about attaching loop for hanging.  Please check my previous tutorial for the loop.

This is so much of fun and easy to make.

Happy to answer any questions...and do let me know if there is a mistake (gasp!) or a step that needs clarifying. Check out my Tutorial Page for other little projects!
