My pillows

Today I was organizing all my photos for 2011.  I realized few projects i made during the year are forgotten. This is one of my favorite pillows, which I sewed early this year but not blogged about.

I was very happy the way the pillows turn out.  It was a simple plain cotton fabric, nicely embellished with patchwork.  I have piped all around the pillow.

This one with ruffled all the four sides. There is a hidden zipper on the bottom of the backside. It is so easy to make and simple to change the pillow covers.

There are great for my bedroom and living room.

I will come back soon with few more forgotten projects for this year.

Fancy Dress

For some reason, I'm thinking its already Saturday.  It is a long week with lot of work.  Only two more days for Christmas, its been busy working on the holiday orders and Christmas sale exhibition and son's fancy dress.

My son had fancy dress at his playschool.  The theme was animal or leave.  Aryan dressed up as Lion and he was super excited about the costume.

He also learned to say " I'm the King of the Jungle".  I rented the costume, didnt have the time to prepare something for him.  I had to force him to take off the dress to give back.  He was so attached with the character.

It was nice to see all the kids having fun.

Great weekend

Last week my little boy turned 3. It is hard to believe, he is no longer a baby but ready for his school by June 2012.

He requested for Choota Bheem birthday cake and wanted to wear tie like his daddy.. I made him tie and a reversible vest.  I found a lovely boys vest tutorial from make it and love it.  You see I'm always happy to find "boy" things to sew...

I'm so glad that I did something special.  My little buddy jump out of happiness and wore it for the whole day. In fact I'm planning to make one more in different color.

He got lot of gifts, but this was special from his big sister.  A lovely drawing by Aashu.

Aryan! you are so special...lot of love from all of us

Okra yogurt curry/Dahi Bhindi curry

Yummy yogurt!  This is one of my favorite dish, I serve this curry with hot rice or hot chapathi. You should try this one it is so simple, easy and healthy.

Ingredients
2 cups of yogurt
1 tspChilly powder
2 tsps besan powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric
250 gram of Okra
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 tsp mustard
2 Dried Red Chillies
Curry Leaves
Salt to taste
Chopped fresh coriander to garnish

Remove top and tail of the okra and then cut into pieces. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan; add the okra along with salt and saute till its light golden brown. Cover the pan with the lid for a minute, the okra will tender with the water release. Then keep it aside.

Yogurt mixture is simple

Take the yogurt, add besan, turmeric powder and chilli powder. Whisk until smooth.Cook the yogurt mixture in another pan until becomes thick, if you over cook the yogurt it will curdle , so remember to keep the flame low.
Now the add the okra to the yogurt mixture, and remove the pan from the heat. Its ready for my favorite part of garnishing.  In the another pan  heat 1tsp oil, add mustard let it splutter, then add red chilly, curry leave. Pour it to the okra yogurt curry and garnish with cilantro leave.

Your curry is ready to serve.

What did you try this weekend?

Pleated cuties

OMG, its december... Do you know I love december for two reasons.  Its the month when my son was born and its last month of the year.

Truely inspired by the rainly weather, I made a cute and small pleated stylish bag along with mini pleated pouch for coin or small essential. The handle is so convienent with key lobster, which can be worn as wrislet or carried as shoulder bag.

I like this fabric, but left with less than half a yard.  This pleated bag measures 8"x 8" and strap length is 17".  I used two magnetic snaps for flap and recessed zipper to secure things.  The mini pouch measures  4"x 4" and  easy to open & close with velcro.

One more pleated cuties of slightly different size. The bag measures 8"x6" and the pouch of 4"x5". My favorite is this fabric; very flowery.  And the lining is very cute with small prints.

Pleated cuties are available for sale.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.  My internet was on and off during last week.  After a struggle with telephone exchange people finally i got my internet connection up.  Here is my new tote bag made for my sister. She loved this fabric and wanted for herself.

It is a flat-surfaced bottom; pretty spacious for holding all essentials with a zipper closure.  Extra zipper compartment in the front and back of the bag.   This upholstery fabric is extremely durable and great bag for shopping or beach or weekend or working girl.

Wooden button embellishment is classic. I took this photo before the button was attached.

A perfect match of fashion and function.  Inside with Zipper pocket on one side and five little pocket on other side to keep mobile, ear phone, pen, key ,lip gloss etc..

Kids shorts with cuff, pocket &button.

This weekend I have stroked off few tasks from my Do-list.  One of the task was shorts for my son with cuff and pocket.  I got this fabric in three different colors, so planned to make them with different pockets.

After long break finally I managed to make a tutorial for Kids shorts with cuff and pocket embellished with button.

Materials:

Fabric A
Fabric B
Elastic
Buttons

First I traced the pattern from my son's old shorts that fit him well and marked the pattern on the Fabric A and cut them.
Use Fabric B for pocket and cuff.

For Cuff, I cut 2" wide strip.  Sew the right side of the strip onto the wrong side of bottom of the shorts.

Now fold the strip into half  and fold again toward the right side of the shorts. In other-words turn the shorts right side out and fold the cuff into half and one more time and press.

Neatly top sew both the ends of the strip.  I used  purple thread on the black stripe and I love thelook.
Mark the pocket pattern on the Fabric B and cut 4 pieces of them.  Sew 2 pieces with right side together and leave one side open, then turn it around.

Mark the pocket wherever you want it on the shorts.  In the front or back or sides.  I planned to sew this pocket on the side of the shorts.

Slightly fold the raw edge toward inside and top sew the pocket to the shorts.
The cuff and the pocket is ready.  Now simply sew small side of the shorts - right side facing each other.  When you turn the right side it should look like this.

Pin the back portions with right side facing each other and sew the crotch.
For waist, fold over more than the elastic size and sew the edge and insert the elastic.  Now ready to sew the button .

Enjoy making one!
